Summer in Northern Wisconsin finds residents and visitors enjoying the beaches and waters of Lake Superior. Wisconsin Point, outside Superior, is a favorite spot, with the world's largest freshwater sandbar. The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is home to various historic lighthouses and the 21 islands are called the jewels of Lake Superior. Kids love to explore the arches and chambers of the sea caves that line the shores, and with a large population of black bears, a sighting is likely. Wisconsin's Northwoods fill with summer hikers, bikers and fishermen enjoying pristine waterways and miles of beautiful trails. Summer in Northern Wisconsin is ideal for a getaway.

You can test your summer training program at Superior's 2010 Burrito Union 10 & 5 Hour Triathlon. With various formats, winners are determined by those completing the most Triathlons in the 10 hour or 5 hour timeframe. Held at Pattison State Park on September 11th, the location is ideal. The swim takes place at Interfalls Lake, with a sandy beach start, the bike and run segments pass over local trails and bridges, with views of Little Manitou Falls and other sites.

The Packers recently announced the First Downs for Trees program which plants a tree in Brown County for each first down earned during regular season play. Wisconsin's state capital, Madison, has the moniker Lake City, as it was developed between the lakes of Monona and Mendota. Also called The City of Four Lakes, Madison is also near Lakes Waubesa and Kegonsa – the four lakes are formed by the Yahara River. Madison is an oasis in summer for water recreation and outdoor enthusiasts. The University of Wisconsin in Madison is one of the largest and most respected public universities in the US, adding to the high education rankings the city receives. Summer means the City of Madison Parks are filled with softball and soccer games and the Elver Park cross country ski trails are in the season for Disc Golf. It is time to get outside for summer fun.

Madison hosts the Ford Ironman September 12th, 2010. An amazing challenge consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run. Age groups from 18 to over 75 years old will be participating and earning your support and cheers. The run course is through downtown Madison where spectators can line the streets and Monona Terrace is the best viewing area for the swim. The Ironman Expo will be held at Monona Terrace from September 9th through the 13th.

Summer time in Southern Wisconsin means a trip to “The Dells”. Wisconsin Dells is the waterpark capital of the world, with several of the largest waterparks in the US. Pick outdoor or indoor for summer fun. The Wisconsin River and Lake Delton nearby are popular outdoor water recreation areas. Kenosha on the Southwest shores of Lake Michigan is Wisconsin's fourth largest city. The beaches of Lake Michigan draw summer visitors for fishing and water recreation. Kenosha's Harborpark is beautiful for a walk, rollerblading and bicycling. You may even see an outdoor concert or other entertainment. Summer is a delightful time to be outdoors in Southern Wisconsin.

Kenosha hosts the 7th Annual Harborpark Jazz & Blues Festival on August 21st, 2010. The beautiful lakefront setting is ideal for an evening of Jazz featuring headliner Marion Meadows. Milwaukee's 11 piece Nabori is also on the schedule along with the Tremper Golden Strings. The Best Western Harborside Inn and Kenosha Conference Center is an ideal location to spend the night or make the Jazz and Blues Festival a nice getaway. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, you won't need to drive. Janesville on Interstate 90 in Southern Wisconsin is called Wisconsin's Park Place. A wonderful town featuring 2,500 acres of parkland with 20 acres of botanical gardens. Janesville features nine historic districts, summer water-ski shows and unique restaurants and shopping. The Best Western Janesville is centrally located for all Janesville's attractions and events.

The 2010 Division 1 National Water Ski Show and Tournament will be held mid-August in Janesville. The local Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Club is the local host for the event August 13th through the 15th. The Rock Aqua Jays also perform through Labor Day during twice weekly water shows at Traxler Park on the Rock River. The shows are free and always entertaining and full of fun and excitement.

New to Southwest Wisconsin in 2010 is the Unnamed Epic, an epic mountain biking race over 75 miles of the Wisconsin driftless region. The Race begins in historic Mineral Point, through Dodge State Park and finishes at Blue Mound State Park. The 2010 registered entrants will have the opportunity to submit names for the future of the event. This exciting challenge gains over a mile in elevation over the course. The Best Western Quiet House & Suites in Dodgeville is convenient for the start and finish of the race. Stay for the weekend and enjoy the indoor-outdoor pool or the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum nearby.
