Visiting Southern Wisconsin

Southern Wisconsin from the eastern ridges and lowlands, through Wisconsin Dells, to the western uplands and the seven rivers region, is a spring and summer delight for travelers. Wisconsinites are ready for warmer weather, to enjoy the great outdoors, waterways and many events southern Wisconsin has to offer. With a passion for beautiful scenery and love of activity, the calendar is filled with loads of fun events and happenings for all ages. Bicycling is a favorite recreational and competitive sport in Wisconsin and the southern region has a variety of bike events to support the two-wheel zeal. From Kenosha up to Manitowoc and Lake Michigan, across to Prairie du Chien and La Crosse on the Mississippi River, spring and summer is a wonderful time to be in southern Wisconsin.

Dodgeville is the center for the 7th Annual QuadruPedal Spring Century Challenge – a bicycling tour with options for all. Routes include 35, 55, 86 and 100 mile distances, and there are plenty of rest stops on each. This is a benefit for the Iowa County Humane Society, and is a great event to warm up for summer cycling. Set in the beautiful rolling hills of southern Wisconsin, there will even be showers and a delicious dinner after the finish. Gather friends and family and support a great cause as well as your health.

GRABAAWR, the Great Annual Bicycle Adventure Along the Wisconsin River starts in northern Wisconsin and ends 427 miles downriver in Priaire du Chien. June 19th through 26th 2010 marks the 25th year of the event. Riders bike an average of 70 miles a day over seven fun filled days. Best Western Hotels along the route are convenient for participants and fans looking for home style comforts. The Best Western Derby Inn in Eagle River is as the start of the challenge, Best Western Claridge Motor Inn and Best Western Baraboo Inn are along the route, and the Best Western Bluffview Inn and Suites in Prairie du Chien has whirlpool suites that make a great treat at the end of your adventure.

Kenosha is home to the Wisconsin Marathon, 2010 is the second year and it is scheduled for May 1st. Events include a two mile walk and half marathon and a fun post race party for runners and fans. Take advantage of this new race to enjoy a less crowded and more personal event. Don't miss the cheese corral and the brat and beer party for all.
