Visiting Northern Wisconsin

Northern Wisconsin, encompasses shores of Lake Superior, and the Apostle Islands, to Green Bay and Lake Michigan's coast. Residents and visitors enjoy rich outdoor diversity and charming small towns. Superior and Ashland in the north east to Sturgeon Bay, and Eau Claire, Hudson and River Falls in the west, celebrate local culture and heritage welcoming visitors to join in. The city of Green Bay is the largest metropolitan city in Northern Wisconsin, known for Green Bay Packers football, it is the smallest city with an NFL team. Green Bay is nicknamed “Titletown, USA” in honor of the Packers success.

Not simply spectators, Wisconsinites are active in sports. Runners from across the world join residents for the Green Bay Marathon mid-May. In addition to the marathon and half marathon, events on tap include kid's runs, a 2.62 mini-marathon and a health and fitness expo. Lambeau Field, the Packer's home, will host a pasta dinner and the marathon finish. The Green Bay Blizzard, Green Bay's professional indoor football team, make football nearly a year round sport in the city. Home games are played at the Resch Center and are scheduled into June. June 6th is sports day in Green Bay, sports fans who attend the Green Bay Bullfrogs afternoon baseball game receive a free ticket to the evening Blizzard game. A fun family day for sports lovers.

Ashland, near Lake Superior is home to a unique and challenging event. The Chequamegon Woods to Water Relay is a team running event that covers approximately 80 miles. The 2010 race is the 13th annual event to be held May 30th. Team consist of eight runners who complete individual segments of approximately three miles each, in three sequences. With several race categories, this is a great opportunity to gather family, co-workers and friends into a team, for a great challenge.

One of Northern Wisconsin's favorite events is the Wausau Balloon Rally and Glow held July 8th through 11th 2010. The 3rd Annual Big Bull Falls BBQ Ribfest is also held on the same days at the Wausau Municipal Airport. A shuttle bus will be in service for transportation between downtown Wausau and the airport grounds so visitors don't miss a thing. Enjoy the delicious BBQ, along with events including; live music, helicopter and plane rides and the hot-air balloons.
