Visiting Northern Wisconsin

Summer in Northern Wisconsin finds residents and visitors enjoying the beaches and waters of Lake Superior. Wisconsin Point, outside Superior, is a favorite spot, with the world's largest freshwater sandbar. The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is home to various historic lighthouses and the 21 islands are called the jewels of Lake Superior. You can test your summer training program at Superior's 2010 Burrito Union 10 & 5 Hour Triathlon. With various formats, winners are determined by those completing the most Triathlons in the 10 hour or 5 hour timeframe. Held at Pattison State Park on September 11th, the location is ideal. The swim takes place at Interfalls Lake, with a sandy beach start, the bike and run segments pass over local trails and bridges, with views of Little Manitou Falls and other sites.

Superior's Best Western Bay Walk Inn and Best Western Bridgeview Motor Inn, are ideal locations for traveler's to the Burrito Union Triathlon, or the many other sites and attractions in and around Superior. Football Fans, don't forget the 2010 Midwest Shrine Game with the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns is Saturday August 14th. The Shrine Game kicks-off August pre-season play at Lambeau Field, with regular season home play starting on September 19th against the Bills. The Packers recently announced the First Downs for Trees program which plants a tree in Brown County for each first down earned during regular season play. For a fun family Labor Day Weekend getaway, consider Town and Country Days at Shell Lake. Near Spooner, events are held September 3rd through the 5th. Bring friends and family out to celebrate the weekend with parades, a regatta, games, contests and arts and crafts. Athletes can compete in a bike, run and canoe triathlon or volleyball tournament.
